The West has sought to use Afghanistan's opposition Northern Alliance as its foot-soldiers in military action against the Taliban. Against this background, the West must now take responsibility for the behaviour of the Northern Alliance, including war crimes.

Afghan refugees seeking to enter Pakistan are fleeing Allied bombs and missiles, not Afghanistan's Taliban regime. It will not take long for the number of people dying in bombing raids or from starvation to reach 6,000, the same number as the victims of the terrorist attacks in the US.
