At least the Cold War kept the terrorists at bay

Article Abstract:

A fragile stability was maintained during the Cold War period due to the mutual threat of nuclear weapons, with both the USSR and US using the United Nations to avoid direct conflict. The US remains the greatest superpower, but it also remains seemingly powerless and unwilling to retaliate against even the smallest aggressors when US casualties have been incurred. Paramilitary organisations feel encouraged to attack the US to pursue their political aims because of the unlikelihood of a US military response. The IRA has treated the UK government in a similar way, with the UK subsequently adopting the unsuccessful policy of appeasement.

Mud, mayhem and Manolos

Article Abstract:

Fashion has become an increasingly significant feature at music festivals, where participants have until recently merely worn their oldest, most comfortable clothes. Layering of clothing is essential at music festivals, where the weather can be very unpredictable. It is important to choose breathable, natural fabrics that can be folded easily into a small bag. Colours such as electric blues and sultry reds make it easy to stand out from the crowd.

How to tackle the murder and mayhem

Article Abstract:

Recent terrorist attacks have highlighted how difficult it is for governments across the world to take effective action against terrorism. This is a particular problem because terrorism is so diverse, being fostered by very complicated cultural, religious, social and ideological backgrounds. Governments must now look at learning from past attempts at combatting terrorism, and must ensure that they can meet new challenges.
