Awful truth behind Spielberg film

Article Abstract:

Steven Spielberg's film 'Saving Private Ryan' portrays the US military in a more positive light than it deserves, according to US Navy veteran Lester Zook. He served on the warship 'Juneau' in the North Pacific during the second world war, and experienced how the military authorities left men unrescued in liferafts for seven days after the warship sank. It was the death of five brothers in this disaster that prompted the military to introduce a policy of removing servicemen whose brothers had died in combat from the line of fire. This policy is portrayed in Spielberg's film.

Dick Francis thrillers 'were ghost written by wife.'

Article Abstract:

It is claimed in 'A Racing Life,' a new biography of former jockey Dick Francis written by Graham Lord, a former literary editor of the Sunday Express, that much of the work on the former's popular novels was actually undertaken by his wife, Mary. The biography quotes several sources to support the view that Francis, who received little formal education, could not have written the novels alone. In contrast, his wife read and wrote a great deal and had a degree in French and English by the age of 19.

The two men did not meet until Hill was released, but had been in close contact for 13 years. Hill fought hard for Nicholls' acquittal, and visited him every six weeks. Before his own release, he helped other prisoners by writing letters on their behalf.
