Bacon: the rough guide

Article Abstract:

The Tate Gallery in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition entitled 'Francis Bacon: Works on Paper.' This exhibition covers drawings by Francis Bacon from the period 1957 to 1961, a time when his mature style was beginning to develop. Almost all the drawings are figure studies, usually dealing with working out a body pose or shape. They emphasize the cartoony side of Bacon's art, and are often graceful. There are no head or face studies, although these form a significant part of Bacon's fame.

If at first you don't succeed...

Article Abstract:

Art TM gallery in Inverness, Scotland, is currently staging an exhibition of the drawings of David Connearn. His works are all made up of a series of slightly wandering lines, and it can be difficult initially to understand them. However, their variable densities have great beauty and mystery, and their richness can be highly absorbing. Their textures are out of Connearn's control, being determined by the accumulated wandering of each stroke.
