Banging the British Coal drum

Article Abstract:

Malcolm Edwards, commercial director of British Coal is being pushed out but refuses to leave quickly amid admiration from his supporters. Edwards has always promoted the cause of British Coal especially with consumers National Power and PowerGen. His outspoken style is not liked by new chairman Neil Clarke, but his supporters feel that without him British Coal will shrink rapidly to a viable size for privatisation. Lawyers for both sides are negotiating terms for his departure, meanwhile he refuses to leave.

Brown hangs on as British Gas purges old guard

Article Abstract:

British Gas is undertaking extensive management changes which will lead to the departure of three top executives. This will leave chief executive Cedric Brown as the only remaining member of the group which is regarded as the 'old guard.' He has decided not to take up his right to a long-term incentive scheme from which he could have earned around 2 million pounds sterling in shares, as he feels that his remuneration has received extensive media coverage recently.

BT kept waiting on lines to Europe's free market

Article Abstract:

It is essential that the European telecommunications market is liberalised further, according to Sir Iain Vallance, chairman of British Telecom (BT). However, it is still not yet clear when full competition will be introduced, and this is causing frustration for BT, which was one of the first European telecommunications companies to face competition in its domestic market. It believes that the European Commission should now focus on deregulation.
