Barrels of fun for the old publicans

Article Abstract:

Residents of the retirement village for publicans in Denham, UK, meet daily at the villlage's public house, the Owl. Some live in bungalows, whilst others, no longer able to care for themselves, live in the residential care home in the village. According to the welfare officer, some of the residents drink more than her but they can take it and they are more lively than the elderly in general. Jack Little, one of the 2% of residents who were not in the licensing trade, describes the environment as like that of a holiday village.

A dream house, but is the buyer dreaming?

Article Abstract:

UK Estate agents and vendors of upmarket houses are having problems differentiating between genuine house-buyers and tricksters who just pretend to be buying such a home. One in two estate agents who market houses worth more than average admit to having encountered such a problem. A convincing man with three assumed names has had several structural surveys carried out without paying. The Chairman of the National Association of Estates would like to send his name and address to members if it is legally permissable.
