Big Blue has something for everyone

Article Abstract:

The 1999 London International Boat Show will attract an estimated 200,000 visitors. A very wide range of equipment and services will be on display. One of the most popular sectors of new sailing boat sales is in the 40-ft range, where prices begin at around 100,000 pounds sterling. There is also strong demand for power boats, which accounted for around 75% of new boat sales in 1998. Displays will detail how the Recreational Craft Directive, which defines stability for all coastal and offshore boats, applies to each boat.

Escaping to warmer climes now affordable

Article Abstract:

Cruising in the Mediterranean has become a very popular form of holiday among Britons. Sunsail, which now has 750 boats, sold around 58,000 holidays in 1998, from around 10,000 in 1993. The main types of cruising holiday are chartering a boat and taking it yourself, the flotilla holiday, with yachts cruising in company, and the club resort holiday, where activities are available if required. Customers are becoming more demanding, and this means that facilities and services are improving.

Exports put a breeze in the sales

Article Abstract:

The annual boat show in Earls Court, London, UK, reflected the sharp decline in the UK boat industry since autumn 1990. Overall, its workforce has been cut by one fifth. There are indications of improvement in selected areas of the market although sailing boat sales have fallen further than power boat sales, most of which are exports. French firms have also reported losses.
