Blair turns up the heat on the Taliban

Article Abstract:

The UK government is giving increasingly clear indications that it wishes to see Afghanistan's Taliban regime removed from power, as well as achieving the arrest of Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. Prime Minister Tony Blair has stated that he has seen firm evidence of bin Laden's involvement in the attacks.

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has tried to play down the growing political controversy over the shipment of arms to Sierra Leone by military consultancy Sandline. He has emphasized that both the United Nations and the UK were attempting to assist the democratically elected regime in Sierra Leone in regaining power from the leaders of an illegal military coup. He has also defended Peter Penfold, British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone.
