Blair prepares to take the Third Way on electoral reform

Article Abstract:

Proposals for electoral reform in the United Kingdom have been set out by Lord Jenkins who has received favorable reviews prior to the publication of his report. Prime minister, Tony Blair, may welcome the report. He may also postpone taking any decisions on its recommendations for a system that reflects votes cast in terms of seat won more accurately than the existing system. The ruling Labor party is divided on this issue, and it is more likely that a referendum will be held in the next parliament than it will be held prior to an election.

The long walk ends at home for Mandela

Article Abstract:

The founding president of the new South Africa, Nelson Mandela is retiring to Qunu, handing over control to Thabo Mbkei. He is extending his house in Qunu, and aims to spend time with his grandchildren and his wife, Graca Machel, and her family. He argues that he should stay out of the way of his successor, though Thabo Mbeki is not a man who would be overshadowed with ease. He emphasises his role as a disciplined African National Congress member, who will pay heed to his president.
