Blair's vision to reform Britain

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair used his speech at the Labour party's 1998 annual conference to highlight his reform plans. He outlined his goals for the welfare state and emphasized his belief in the family as the key element in a strong community. He announced funding of 30 million pounds sterling to modernize 50 hospital accident and emergency departments in 1999, along with 25 million pounds sterling for an instant booking system for patients. He called on conference delegates to back the government's plans for fundamental reform of the teaching profession.

Milosevic has caught Nato still living by its Cold War creed

Article Abstract:

Nato has clearly shown in its military action against Serbia that it still believes that it can engage in conflict without losing any military personnel. There is a strong will to bring about the downfall of Serb President Slobodan Milosevic, but Nato lacks the means to do this because it is unwilling to risk the lives of ground forces. In contrast, Milosevic has no fear at all of losing troops. Nato action against Serbia is also hampered by the fact that western politicians are unwilling to risk the loss of any popularity.
