Britain encouraged to do its duty

Article Abstract:

The German European Commission Vice President Martin Bangemann demanded that Britain ratify the Maastricht treaty as soon as possible because Britain was accommodated in several special points in the treaty. Ireland and Luxembourg have ratified the treaty, France can ratify after the positive referendum result, and smaller countries will probably follow France. Brussels is waiting for London to pass legislation. The treaty cannot be effected until the first day of the month after the last member country has ratified it.

Europe brings the publishers to book

Article Abstract:

The Net Book Agreement was ruled void by the European Court on Jul 9 1992 as it restricts competition. As well as setting minimum prices, the NBA lays down provisos for trade between Britain and the Irish Republic. The European Commission ruled that the NBA broke the Treaty of Rome by perverting trade between Britain and Ireland. British books may hence be sold at any price in Ireland, suggesting what might happen to sales in Britain if there were no NBA. Re-imported books could be sold at a low price.

Captain Dirk of Xircom

Article Abstract:

Dirk Gates founded Xircom in 1988 to sell a tiny adaptor which he had developed with a friend. This adaptor could be plugged into the printer port at the back of a notebook PC, allowing it to be connected to a network. It has stood up well to competition over the last two years, developing new card-based products. Its most recent launch is a new kind of network link with no wires at all. It connects the PC to the company network via a high-tech microwave radio.
