Food, alcoholic drink and tobacco

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the UK economy for the first half of 1998 yielded mixed results. The results indicated that industrial production and trade slowed down while consumer spending continued. The food, alcoholic drink and tobacco sector has neither contributed to the decline in trade nor supported the consumer boom. Tougher trading conditions are expected in the sector for 1998 as consumer loyalty diminishes because of the proliferation of choices. In addition, erratic weather patterns will definitely affect sales of food items.
