'Can't pay? We'll take the carpet.'

Article Abstract:

It is important that a bailiff does not become upset by seeing people in very poor circumstances, according to bailiff Karl Smith. He feels that he has become hardened to people's pleas of poverty. He does not believe that he gets satisfaction from taking money or goods from people, and emphasizes that he is merely earning a living. He has developed a strong ability to know when people are capable of paying their debts.
