Celebrating abstraction

Article Abstract:

African music is conceived as a natural event, with no directed sense of form and time, according to composer Kevin Volans, who now lives in Ireland but grew up in South Africa. He regards himself as totally post-serial, as well as a structuralist. He admires choreographers, whom he regards as being adventurous in their musical choices. He is shortly to celebrate his 50th birthday, and feels that this is a good time to reconsider the direction of his music.

Nicholas Georgiadis

Article Abstract:

Painter, theatre designer and teacher Nicholas Georgiadis was born in Athens, Greece, in 1923. He studied architecture and painting and then moved to New York, NY, to attend Columbia University. He attended the Slade in London, England, from 1953, and in 1958 became a teacher there.

No business like snow business

Article Abstract:

Two ballets by Vladimir Burmeister, 'The Snow Maiden' and 'Swan Lake,' are to be performed in London, England, by Russia's Stanislavsky Ballet. The company now tours for around two months each year, allowing dancers to earn reasonable sums of money.
