Cleverness is not enough

Article Abstract:

Leader of the Labour Party John Smith is an unusual politician, publicly self-confident, with a moral base to his views. The national change of mood from contentment to repayment of debt, and increased criminality and decay of public standards, needs careful management. John Smith should balance realistic and revolutionary policies. The Labour European economic policy was similar to that of the Conservatives. Mr Smith has the opportunity to create new Labour policies on all aspects of Europe.

Social democracy or just soap opera?

Article Abstract:

It is well known that there are strong personality clashes among leading figures in the UK Labour party. Party leader Tony Blair has failed to take this problem seriously enough, and has allowed it to become a distraction from the main business of policy-making. This could cause severe difficulties if Tony Blair becomes prime minister, when there will be a rigid circle of influence around him.

No Machiavelli, just a social democrat in disguise

Article Abstract:

Labour politician Peter Mandelson has always had a rather mysterious image, and seems to create fear among members of the shadow cabinet. This may now be dispelled by his recently published book. This reveals him as a loyalist and a serious politician who is working towards gaining more power. However, there may still be some observers who feel that he has a hidden agenda.
