Clockwork composer

Article Abstract:

Anthony Burgess became a celebrated author, but was very attracted to music and had actually initially wanted to become a great composer. He sought to establish himself as a composer, and only turned to writing in his 30s after his musical efforts had been rejected. He only ever heard a small number of his works performed. His musical output has now been brought together by American conductor and composer Paul Phillips, who is publishing and performing a range of Burgess compositions. Phillips believes that it is not yet possible to say how good or how significant this music really is.
