Companies need a cost champion

Article Abstract:

Profeesional fees for company restructing have been criticised for being too costly. The UK bank NatWest has cooperated with lawyers and accountants to offer cost-effective services to companies. NatWest charges in between 0.3% and 0.4% of the company's total debt. In a company's restructuring programme costs involve bank fees and loans and service fees to professional. Cost depends on the complexity of the restructuring. NatWest has encouraged professionals to prepare weekly cost reports which is monitored by the bank, assesses professionals' work with other firms and encourages document standardisation.

A new world of spy games

Article Abstract:

UK Intelligence agency MI6 will be on a statutory basis in 1993 and will moveto new headquarters in Vauxhall Cross, south London, England, in 1994. The buildings cost 240 million pounds sterling. MI6 has diversified into counter-terrrorism, pollution and counter-narcotics and gathers intelligence about the spread of Islamic fundamentalism. The agency's role and control may become similar to that of the CIA. MI6 budgets are being reviewed and more aggressive intelligence gathering in commerce and arms sales is sought.

Champion of the games in Catalonia

Article Abstract:

Jordi Pujol i Soley, founder of the Convergencia Democratica de Catalunya political party, was born in Barcelona in 1930 during the Civil War. Pujol studied medicine and worked in the pharmaceutical industry. He joined Cristo Catalunya, a nationalist Catholic youth group and was imprisoned for singing the banned Catalan anthem 'La Senyera' at a concert attended by Franco. He was elected to the Congress in Madrid 1977 and became Catalonia's first president in 1980.
