Council fraud inquiry attacked as 'French farce.' (Kent Fraud Squad investigates Thanet local authority)

Article Abstract:

The Kent Fraud Squad has interrogated 10 officials and four others and removed many council planning files since Sept 1991. Bill Leadbetter, council leader was arrested and his mother, Margaret Mortlock, chairwoman and millionaire was accused of corruption but the allegations were not specified. In Thanet eight fraud inquiries have arisen in 16 years due to jealousy of wealth and political fighting.

Blue-chip town painted red by middle class

Article Abstract:

The Conservative party has traditionally been very strong in the prosperous Berkshire town of Bracknell, where a number of prestigious firms have their headquarters. However, Conservative support collapsed in the recent local elections, and the party will no longer dominate Bracknell Forest council. The Conservatives were defeated even though the Labour opposition was divided.

Final act in a Falklands drama

No real explanation has ever been given forthe death of Royal Marine Alan Addis, who disappeared from a social club on the FalklandIslands in Aug 1980. His mother Ann has since spent a great deal of time trying to find out thetruth behind the case. She believes that he may have been murdered, and is appealing to the localcommunity to come forward with information.
