Distrusted, distressed and denigrated: the plight of the modern teacher

Article Abstract:

The challenges facing teachers in the UK are discussed. They include excessive bureaucracy, low pay and lack of respect from children and parents. It is now time to address this problem by employing more classroom assistants and giving teachers guaranteed time off for marking and preparation.

The admissions procedure used by UK colleges and universities is unnecessarily complicated. It would be better to consider a system in which students take their A-level examinations earlier, thus allowing universities and colleges to make offers of places based on firm information.
