Don't bend to the Americans

Article Abstract:

The UK, France, Spain and Portugal have traditionally imported bananas from their former colonies in the Caribbean, Africa and the West Indies. In contrast, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands have imported larger, cheaper bananas produced by US multinationals in Latin America. However, the European Union as a whole is protesting about threats from the US to impose sanctions on European Union products if it does not implement a free market in bananas. The fact that European Union countries are acting together on this issue is to be welcomed.
