Don't spare us the bloodshed

Article Abstract:

BBC and ITN news editors work to written guidelines and traditions about what should be broadcast to the general public. Some observers feel that these people should not be responsible for editing news coverage in this way, ensuring that the most disturbing images remain unbroadcast. Politics is a key determining factor in which images get broadcast in particular countries. In much of the third world, financial considerations are also important, and many African and Asian countries receive the same broadcasts, regardless of their politics.

The control myth

Article Abstract:

Teachers are usually expected to maintain full control of their classes with total discipline at all times and are regarded as incompetent if this is not achieved. This is a totally unrealistic expectation because a person can never have perfect control over others. There will always be the occassional rebellion but it is not an automatic condemnation of the teacher as a failure. It is only an inevitable result of helping young people of diverse personalities deal with life and maturity.

Safety without houses

Article Abstract:

Purchasing a house is not necessarily the best way to create financial security, particularly for those who may wish to spend some time abroad in the near future. It may be advisable to continue renting a property, thus ensuring a higher degree of financial freedom. However, it is important to save for retirement. Consideration should be given to a flexible personal pension. Care must also be taken to ensure that some funds are available on an instant access basis, in case of emergency.
