Down a tunnel and up among glories

Article Abstract:

The Channel tunnel makes it possible to reach Paris in only three hours from London, allowing British people easier access to Parisian art galleries and museums. At both the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay, very imaginative use has been made of the available space during recent renovation work, and they attract large crowds of visitors. The Louvre still has some disadvantages, including the fact that its collections are not well balanced, but it contains some important remnants of French history.

Cometh the hour, cometh the brute

Article Abstract:

There are a number of examples of cases where someone who has undertaken acts which are a crime in the eyes of the law is actually regarded as a hero in popular culture. This person's crimes are sometimes ignored together by really devoted admirers, or they are dismissed as mistakes which can be forgiven. In the case of OJ Simpson, for example, some people still refuse to believe that he is guilty of murder, while others accept that he is but still see him as a hero.

Everybody doth protest too much

Article Abstract:

Protests against destruction of the environment for road building are uncaring and unproductive. Oxleas Wood in south-east London will be destroyed by a new motorway but the general public could see this as an opportunity to plan a new wood. The unemployed doing workfare could plant new trees. Other workfare people could re-enact medieval life in an ancient wood.
