Dream scheme

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour party's policy on pensions involves the creation of a stakeholder system which links the universal cover and state approval on which the existing state earnings-related pension scheme is based with the investment and management expertise of the financial services industry. It plans to set up a number of large industry-wide funded schemes which could benefit from the economies of scale which such large funds should create. These schemes would be managed by the financial services industry, and this would produce funding for other benefits, such as long-term care.

Take care when you take advisers

Article Abstract:

Dealing with a financial adviser need not necessarily be an intimidating experience. It is important to remember that people who sell financial products are now required to meet strict conditions set by the Personal Investment Authority. A financial adviser should take time to get to know the client, and should undertake a thorough assessment of existing financial arrangements. The client should not agree to take on any product before being made fully aware of why it is suitable and what it will cost.

This area is secure

Article Abstract:

Most large UK investment companies now maintain a Web site which provides a wide range of investment data. Most sites now also take enquiries, but they are unable to handle payments. This will change later in 1997 with the implementation of secure payment technology, allowing secure bank transfers to be undertaken on-line. The selling of investment products is also likely to be widened by the introduction of interactive television.
