Eager eyes on the snow show

Article Abstract:

The Albertville, France, Winter Olympics 1992 needed an internal telecommunications network, access to international telephone lines and broadcast networks, and electronic security coverage. Everything was portable or convertible. One hundred kilometres of fibre-optic cable and 25 satellite relays fed live coverage to studios for mixing and transmission via Telecom 2. An 8,000-line switchboard handled 200,000 calls a day. Pagers were essential. High-definition television was the new feature for the 1992 Olympics.

Charismatic right-winger eyes top prize

Article Abstract:

Mayor of Frejus, France, Francois Leotard, 50, is a Union for French Democracy (UDF) candidate in the National Assembly elections of Sunday Mar 28, 1993. The UDF and the Gaullist RPR are expected to get into government with a landslide. President Mitterand believes Leotard would make a suitable prime minister. He may or may not be offered a ministry. Leotard was accused of corruption in Jun 1992 but the charges were dropped in Jan 1993, leaving him less confident until election campaigning began.

Here's looking at you, ol' vampire eyes

Article Abstract:

Some opticians are now making available FreshLook Colours, the first disposable coloured contact lenses in the UK. The lenses have tiny dots of a realistic iris-like pattern of colour, but can appear unnatural on some people. They appear a different colour according to the amount of light and the wearer's natural eye colour, and can sometimes be a very different colour from what the wearer expected.
