Eat, drink, and be healthy

Article Abstract:

Chinese New Year is an ideal time to consider purchasing more Chinese foods and medicinal herbs. Many Chinese ingredients are now available in mainstream supermarkets, but it is still worth visiting a Chinese or Oriental supermarket. The most basic products required for authentic Chinese cooking are chilli sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil and fish sauce. It is important not to take Chinese medicinal herbs unless prescribed, but visiting a Chinese pharmacy is still a very interesting experience.

A reviewer of his new book has just called Burroughs a dirty old man. This tickles him no end. 'I wish I was a dirtier old man,' he says

Article Abstract:

Novelist William Burroughs comes from a privileged background, but has spent his adult life in unconventional ways. He has experimented with many different sorts of drugs, and has never been afraid to criticise those in authority. His homosexual experimental novels created great controversy, and he constantly expressed the view that the American people's innocence has been destroyed. Even at the age of 81, he still attracts considerable attention with his unconventional views.

Renaissance man returns

Article Abstract:

Novelist Lawrence Norfolk remains relatively unknown in the UK, despite great success in other countries with his first novel, 'Lempriere's Dictionary.' He has been living in the US in recent years, but has now returned to the UK to promote his second novel, 'The Pope's Rhinoceros.' This is of a very high standard, and is likely to bring him the fame in the UK which he deserves. However, he feels that he is European, rather than British, and may not stay in the UK for long.
