Elaine Brunner

Article Abstract:

Conservationist Elaine Brunner grew up at St James's Palace, where her father was valet to King George V. She married in 1933, and during world war II served in the Oxford Police and Observer Corps. She purchased Wotton House in Buckinghamshire, England, in 1957, and devoted her life to restoring it. She loved this early Georgian house, and had little patience with those who failed to understand it. She had it divided into flats, and this was to provide valuable rental income for later restoration work.
