Europe's other would-be master race

Article Abstract:

There are number of reasons why Sweden had a strong attachment to eugenics policies from the mid-1930s until the mid-1970s. During that time, around 60,000 people who were regarded as being unfit to have children were sterilized. Eugenics seems to have become established in Sweden because it was a progressive idea and because social democrats believed that people could be perfected in body as well as in soul. Furthermore, Scandinavian countries were concerned about remaining racially pure.

We don't need a special day to recall the Holocaust when it's all around us

Article Abstract:

There are still many poignant reminders of the Holocaust, including trials of alleged war criminals and books by people who were closely associated with the Holocaust. Against this background, the UK government's plans to designate Jan 27, the date of the liberation of Auschwitz, as annual Holocaust Remembrance Day, seem inappropriate. The Holocaust is now a well-known element of relatively recent history, and there can be very few people who know nothing about it.

The special pleasures of your own agenda

Article Abstract:

Multimedia technology offers people the opportunity to communicate without actually having to meet. This has certain advantages, but has not served to diminish people's interest in meeting face to face. For example, recent monthly meetings to discuss the future of London, England, have attracted large numbers of people. Events which allow people to participate actively are the most popular.
