Suits you, madam

Article Abstract:

The concepts 'masculine' and 'feminine' have developed simply from taught behaviour, according to drag artiste Diane Torr. She began her performing career as a dancer, and this sparked off her interest in the differences between men and women. She later began teaching a course on gender as performance art at a number of different institutions, and from this basis decided to take her views into the performance arena. In her latest show, she uses physical theatre and slide shows to portray the history of women who have cross-dressed as men.

If this is coming out, then I'm staying in

Article Abstract:

Lesbians are now portrayed quite regularly on television and in films, but it is difficult to establish why this should be the case. They are not shown for the benefit of gay women, as this is too small a market. Similarly, their presence seems to cause discomfort among heterosexual viewers. Some lesbians welcome the fact that lesbians are now appearing in large-budget films, but others feel that their lives are turned into mere titillation and are never shown as they really are.
