Music a la Mode

Article Abstract:

Music group Depeche Mode has been extremely successful, despite the personal problems of its members. Lead singer Dave Gahan has experienced particular difficulties, having become a drug addict and made unsuccessful suicide attempts. The group's problems were at their worst during the 'Faith and Devotion' tour, when the individual members were barely on speaking terms with each other. However, the situation now seems to have improved considerably, and the group's latest album, 'Ultra,' is of very high quality.

Time to face the very heavy music

Article Abstract:

Ian Kilminster, known as Lemmy, the singer with hard rock group Motorhead, does not wish to spend all his time surrounded by frivolity. For this reason, he reads many history books. He has lived through considerable changes in the group's fortunes, but is currently enjoying a revival in popularity. The group is releasing its 20th LP, entitled 'Snake Bite Love,' and is to tour the UK in Oct 1998. Lemmy has gained a reputation for impassioned performances and for having a very volatile temperament.

Modern life isn't rubbish

Article Abstract:

Pop group Blur took several years to become established, but is now extremely popular. It has won many awards, and attracts very large crowds. However, it is now finding it increasingly difficult to establish an appropriate image. At present, the group's members see themselves as hippy types, but it is likely that a new image will soon emerge. Lead singer Damon Albarn is now trying to take a wider view of the group's future.
