Everybody out - to be more efficient

Article Abstract:

A management course organised by the Cranfield Institute of Technology and the Trades Union Congress is just part of the radical changes occurring throughout unions, which have had to become more businesslike in their approach. After years of expansion, unions have recently seen only contraction and falling membership. The Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU) has seen its membership halve to slightly over a million and losses reach 12 million pounds sterling. Change has moved from being an option to being a necessity.

It's a jungle out there

Article Abstract:

Many large companies are now lending out managers to leading charities, where they will work on a wide range of very challenging projects. The companies benefit through the experience which promising managers will gain from such work. The projects successfully bring individuals and teams together, and also have direct benefits for emerging democracies or the developing world. Managers are keen to emphasise the projects are extremely hard work, not some sort of bonus.
