Article Abstract:

In the United Kingdom, retail sales rose 6.8% in value and 7.0% in volume in November 2001, versus November 2000, when retail sales rose 3.6% from the prior year. The FootFall Index, which is based on the number of visitors to a selection of U.K. shopping centers, shows a 7.8% increase in November 2001, versus October, but an 0.6% increase in November 2001, versus November 2000. Factory outlet centres

Article Abstract:

It is estimated the number of UK factory outlet centres will grow to 54 by 2002 from one centre in 1991. It is also predicted sales will rise from a value of 454 million pounds sterling in 1998, to 1,280 million pounds sterling by 2002. Factory outlet centres comprise of a range of retailers and manufacturers which often sell well-known brands at reduced prices. Many of the customers want better catering outlets at the villages. Clothing retailers have 42% of the shops at the villages. The most popular centre in the UK is the Clarks Village, Somerset, England, with 6% of customers.

Factory Outlet Centres

The number of factory outlet schemes in the UK has risen to 34 in 2000, from 22 in 1998, with sales up to 1.3 bil pounds sterling, from 595 mil pounds. An overview of business trends is included, along with consumer shopping trends, profiles of key players, the development scene, details of the US and European markets and forecasts for the future.
