Famine feeds anti-British mood

Article Abstract:

The growing trend in the US towards romanticizing Irish history is fuelling a rise in anti-British sentiment. This trend is appealing to politicians, who are keen to gain support from the country's 40 million people who regard themselves as Irish-Americans. Hollywood film studios have taken up this sentiment, producing a number of films about Ireland which some sources in the UK believe contain inaccuracies. There has been growing interest recently in the Irish potato famine of the 1840s, and this has been placing more pressure on relations between the US and the UK.

Bill brings consensus and wistful air to his Big Night party

Article Abstract:

The residents of Little Rock, AR, the home town of newly re-elected US president Bill Clinton, have been celebrating his election victory. However, the celebrations have an underlying air of wistfulness, with Clinton making a rather measured victory speech focusing on consensus and bipartisanship. He recognises that he is being offered a very rare opportunity, being one of only 13 US presidents to win two consecutive terms in office, and is determined to use his time in office to maximum benefit.
