Fifty years as prisoners of war

Article Abstract:

There is still considerable controversy over how to deal with works of art looted by the Nazis from Holocaust victims. The US is at the forefront of 39 countries which have promised to identify these works and compensate the heirs of the victims. This could lead to collections being broken up and leading art institutions losing works which they thought they legally owned. It will not be possible for the heirs of Holocaust victims to claim back money deposited with UK banks. Some of this money has been returned, but the rest has been liquidated and used to pay British creditors.

Outcry over forgotten Nazi death camp

Article Abstract:

Little attention has been given to the Nazi extermination camp at Belzec, Poland, where 600,000 Jews from Ukraine, Poland and other Nazi-occupied countries perished between 1942 and 1943. There were only a very small number of survivors, and the camp is now gradually disintegrating, not having been maintained like other former concentration camps. The Polish government is becoming aware of concern about the neglected state of the camp, and now plans to establish a proper memorial.
