The ugly face of beauty

Article Abstract:

Cosmetic surgery has become very popular, but it is becoming increasingly clear that some private cosmetic surgeons have a very negative attitude towards their clients. In the US, Steven Hoefflin, one of Hollywood's most successful cosmetic surgeons, is alleged to have held his patients in complete contempt, while in the UK it has been found that private cosmetic surgeons are deliberately misleading potential clients about the likely after-effects of surgery. There is clearly a need to address the fact that surgeons do not require any specialist qualifications.

Of queers, poofs and politics

Article Abstract:

The issue of gay sexuality has become increasingly controversial in the UK. There are now many openly gay and lesbian MPs, but most do not overtly support gay issues. This task has been taken over by activists in gay politics. Moderate gays and lesbians wish to divert attention away from the excesses of gay sexuality in order to obtain equality, while more outspoken gays and lesbians feel that they should be open about the more extreme aspects of gay sexuality. It is clear that there is still much progress to made on this matter.
