The head girl of America

Article Abstract:

Republican president candidate Elizabeth Dole has been taken seriously since she began campaigning, even though the position of women in public life in the US is not as advanced as is widely thought. She is benefiting from the fact that she is wealthy and well-connected, as well as from the experience and professional credentials she brings to her campaigning. She has served in the administrations of six presidents and has twice held cabinet office. She appears very charming, but those who become closer to her find that she is difficult to work with and distant.

US voters to give verdict on Clinton

Article Abstract:

Many observers believe that the results of the forthcoming mid-term Congressional and local elections will be a reflection of ordinary people's views on President Bill Clinton. If large numbers of Democrats fail to vote, this will be regarded as representing lack of confidence in Clinton. If Democrats vote in large numbers or average levels of turnout are maintained, this will be seen as an expression of support for Clinton. If the Clinton factor is discounted, the results of the elections could be extremely variable.
