Final verdict on the Guinness affair: 'A cynical disregard of laws, contempt for the truth and common honesty.'

Article Abstract:

A report by UK department of trade and industry inspectors into the Guinness scandal is particularly critical of Ernest Saunders, the former Guinness Chmn. He is said to have been fully aware of all aspects of the share support operation around which the scandal developed. It is concluded that the 3 million pounds sterling which passed through his Swiss bank account was to be used by him personally, although he has denied this. The government has decided not to take action against any of those named for disqualification as company directors.

Superwoman destroys the City's star system

Article Abstract:

The dispute which is currently taking place between high ranking fund manager Nicola Horlick and Morgan Grenfell Asset Management has highlighted the problems which can arise when 'star employees' emerge in the City of London. These employees can become greater than the organisation for which they work, and it seems that organisations have simply been accepting this. It must be remembered that Mrs Horlick was only a fund manager, and that her success was built on the good name of Morgan Grenfell Asset Management.

Morgan Grenfell affair brings out the humbug

Article Abstract:

The scandal currently surrounding Morgan Grenfell Asset Management highlights that fund managers do not necessarily always act with integrity and diligence, even if they appear totally honest and trustworthy. It is clear that there has been negligence on some scale, and it must not be assumed that such an incident is only an isolated one. However, the scandal will not permanently damage London's reputation as a financial centre.
