Flower powerless

Article Abstract:

The march against the Vietnam war that took place on Mar 17, 1968, in London, England, united left-wingers, rock musicians, artists and hippies. The police reacted very aggressively to the march, which had begun as a peaceful demonstration but ended in considerable bloodshed. The march was one of a number of manifestations of a growing shift towards political awareness in the hippy movement. Musicians such as John Lennon and Mick Jagger began to make political statements in their songs, and rock musicians and left-wing politicians seem to have benefit from their association.
