Fostering understanding of a child's past life

Article Abstract:

There can be significant problems associated with the fostering and adopting of children who have been abused. In many cases, such children never learn to form positive relationships or to trust adults, despite being shown great love and patience by their foster parents. It is possible that children who are to be fostered and possibly subsequently adopted need time in a residential environment to come to terms with their past before being offered a permanent placement. This facility is offered by Familymakers, a residential home in Kent, England, where children stay for an average of two years.

Why would I want a plan?

Article Abstract:

People born between 1965 and 1981, who are seen as belonging to 'Generation X,' do not expect smooth career progression. They are willing to work hard, but are prepared to change employer frequently and are determined to remain in control of their own career path. However, it is becoming increasingly common for employers to offer independent advice on career development to these people. These employers tend to be either highly dynamic or not sufficiently dynamic. They recognize that being proactive is vital if they are to retain the best staff.

How parental rights could go very wrong

Article Abstract:

The European Union (EU) has issued a directive on parental leave which allows working parents to have three months' unpaid leave prior to the eighth birthday of their child. Poorer families will be unable to take unpaid leave, and employers argue that it could be too costly for some of them. Companies may already have generous leave schemes which may be abaondoned in favor of the less generous EU scheme. Companies may also be reluctant to take on young women who may seek leave.
