France's electorate has posed questions beyond boundaries

Article Abstract:

The recent general election in France can be interpreted as significant for the indications it gives about the willingness of a large European economy to undertake structural change. It is widely believed that the French voters have given a clear signal that they are opposed to rapid structural change. If this is the case, then the performance of the French economy will not improve in the foreseeable future. However, it could also be argued that structural change may now take place because the new government has legitimacy.

France, a lucky nation poised on the brink of sustained prosperity

Article Abstract:

Britons have over recent years believed that they have many reasons for feeling superior to the French. However, this situation is not likely to persist. These strengths will become more important as the world economy becomes increasingly oriented towards services. France is now in a position to enjoy sustained prosperity for the next two decades.
