Freddy's final fantasy: watching you watching him

Article Abstract:

There has been considerable controversy surrounding the move by Portman Entertainment Group to purchase the non-documentary film, television and video rights to archive material from the estate of mass murderer Frederick West, who committed suicide in 1995. A film would serve to shed some light on the mind of West, but it is hard to see what real purpose it would serve. It must be remembered that Fred West was himself a voyeur, and it is possible that watching a film about him killing may make the audience feel more in control.

Money can't buy the gift of life

Article Abstract:

Surrogacy raises many moral and legal issues which cannot easily be resolved. This has been demonstrated by the case of Karen Roche, who has decided not to hand over to Sonja and Clemens Peters a baby she had agreed to bear for them as a surrogate mother. Surrogacy is an extremely irrational area, and cannot be handled simply by legislation. Many people regard having a child as a right, but this is in fact a misguided view. It is perhaps better to regard a child as a gift, something which is nice to have but not a right.

Hollywood's fantasy about sex and the stars

Article Abstract:

It is widely accepted that high profile film actors and actresses are attractive partly because they sell their sexuality. Acting cannot be directly compared with prostitution, but these are parallel careers in some ways. Acting, like prostitution, involves arousal, desire and the deferral of gratification. However, audiences often cannot accept the real-life sexuality of an actor or actress. This is particularly the case if it involves anything sordid, such as the fact that Rupert Everett was once a rent boy.
