French press gang up on Syria's Assad

Article Abstract:

There has been very negative media coverage of Syria in France in the run-up to Syrian President Hafez al-Assad's visit to France. French newspapers have accused Syria of human rights abuses, bombing and torture, overlooking the fact that other Middle Eastern countries have been guilty of many more crimes than Syria. This comes at a time when Assad is keen to gain France's support, as the US has failed to fulfill its promise of a Middle East peace agreement based on the return of all occupied Arab lands, including the Golan Heights.

Serbia's man tries to win over Beirut

Article Abstract:

The Arab media is presenting a misleading picture of the conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, according to Velibor Dulovic, the Yugoslav Ambassador in Beirut, Lebanon. He believes that the Arab media confuse Bosnia with Kosovo, representing the war in Kosovo as sectarian in order to encourage Arab countries to underwrite the cost. He acknowledges that the Lebanese are well-informed, however, and feels that they fear that if some of them support the Orthodox Christians, it may provoke Muslims in Lebanon.
