Parents get caught in the dash for a degree

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom government plans to introduce tuition fees for university students and many parents will be considering sending their children early to avoid the payment. Students who had planned to wait a year before going to university are likely to change their minds. Grants are available and are usually paid according to the parents' incomes, with around a third of students receiving the maximum and a third receiving no grant. Loans are also available and can be repaidover five years.

An early start on the financial facts of life

Article Abstract:

A survey undertaken by the Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds indicates that most ordinary Britons have very little knowledge about financial matters. This problem is being addressed by the Personal Finance Education Group, which believes that the National Curriculum should place more emphasis on financial issues. It has developed a series of interconnected initiatives designed to assist schools with the teaching of personal finance.
