Gilbert & George do Naples

The Museo di Capodimonte in Naples, Italy, is currently staging an exhibition of work by artists Gilbert & George entitled 'New Testamental Pictures.' The works displayed show uncompromising imagery, and indicate how Gilbert & George wish to create imaginary worlds and invite people to enter them. Many of the works have titles reminiscent of punk novellas, such as 'Shit On Us,' 'Piss Heads' and 'Spunkland.' Gilbert & George have welcomed the opportunity to exhibit in Naples, where there is a positive attitude towards unusual approaches to art.

Article Abstract:

It can be argued that the best television programs in the UK are those that have been imported. This is particularly the case with the new adult cartoon genre. It is clear that imported television has become able to offer an unofficial commentary on contemporary culture in the UK. Britishness as modern concept is being stylized in order to avoid any suspicion of nationalism or anti-multiculturalism, and suppositions of Britishness are being visually punned into a new, more acceptable and fashionable version.
