Give in, cop out - a mother's confession

Article Abstract:

It is very common for parents in the UK to give in to their children on both large and small issues. Children now know that they are likely to get what they want if they make enough fuss, and parents are extremely unwilling to impose strong discipline. Most frequently, parents negotiate with their children, and children do not hesitate to question their parents' authority. Some experts believe that modern children are often insecure, failing to react to their parents' discipline because it is not consistent.

The art of being dyslexic

Article Abstract:

There is a strong link between creative ability and dyslexia, according to research undertaken among students at Central St Martin's College of Art and Design. Most students were found to be intellectually gifted and have very good visual spatial skills, but many had difficulties with spelling, writing and reading. Similar research is also being undertaken in the US, where work at Harvard Medical Centre, for example, has indicated a clear link between dyslexia and visual spatial ability.

Reports: fairly good - could do better

Article Abstract:

UK teachers must now put a great deal of effort into writing their annual reports on each pupil. They must include a lot of very detailed information, and must respond to growing demands from parents for more data about test results and the school's overall performance. It can be very difficult for teachers to strike the right balance between making parents aware that there may be problems with their child's performance and totally offending them.
