Making work a pleasure is a key to success

Article Abstract:

UK companies must consider new approaches to managing human capital as the business climate becomes increasingly competitive and unpredictable. They must develop the ability to fine-tune their workforce, recognizing that it is generally better to fill a vacancy with an existing employee than to recruit somebody completely new. They must consider what staff training they actually want, rather than simply following what company policy indicates as being required. It is also important to place more emphasis on soft skills than hard ones.

Do you sincerely want to be rich?

Article Abstract:

There are signs that UK Chancellor Gordon Brown wishes to expand the role of the market in moulding society. It is possible to gain an insight into this process by considering the social consequences of Brown's proposals regarding entrepreneurship, employee shares and employment in a wider context. Society as a whole now seems to be favouring risk-taking entrepreneurs over hardworking, loyal people. Similarly, the strong emphasis on employment for everybody capable of working overlooks the fact that those without paid work are not necessarily making no contribution to society.
