A cock-up that reawakens suspicions about our spies

Article Abstract:

Recent controversy surrounding former MI5 employee David Shayler highlights the fact that both MI5 and MI6 are poorly managed and inadequate. The attempt to silence Shayler can be interpreted as indicating that both MI5 and MI6 are still obsessed with internal conspiracy theories, even though they have sought to make it clear that they are no longer closely scrutinizing the activities of ordinary British citizens. Far from being ruthless and efficient, MI5 and MI6 are no more than an embarrassment.
