Home-buyers heed global warning

Article Abstract:

UK house builders are becoming aware that potential purchasers are placing more emphasis on energy efficiency. For this reason, their designs are beginning to incorporate energy-saving features. Some 20 builders are offering the scheme developed by independent energy consultancy National Energy Services under which heating and hot water costs are guaranteed not to exceed a predetermined amount. Building societies are now beginning to offer mortgage discounts to people prepared to improve their home to boost its energy efficiency.

Brown fields, green housing

Article Abstract:

There can be considerable problems associated with constructing homes on derelict sites in the UK. Developers may have to incur significant costs, especially if the land is contaminated, and it can take a long time to clear the site. However, local people often welcome the fact that an unattractive site is being put to good use. There are plenty of derelict sites in some urban areas, but it is harder for housebuilders to meet government targets for reusing brownfield land in rural areas.

That's 125,000 pounds sterling a bedroom...

Article Abstract:

A relatively small property in a popular area of central London, England, will cost at least 500,000 pounds sterling. It is not possible to purchase an attractive family home at that price within an hour and a half of central London. Those seeking good value when spending around 500,000 pounds sterling in the Home Counties should try to find a semi-detached property or one in a non-prime location. Further north, 500,000 pounds sterling will purchase a much larger property.
