In the media, you have to make a good fist of it

Article Abstract:

It is common for fights to break out in newsrooms, where people are often very ambitious and must work to very tight deadlines. One of the most famous violent incidents came when Alastair Campbell, then political editor of the Mirror, attacked The Guardian's Michael White after having been taunted about the death of Robert Maxwell. In some cases, tensions in newsrooms can lead to self-inflicted violence. Nine arrests were made after fighting broke out following the closure of Today newspaper in Nov 1995.

350,000 pounds sterling deal exposes the murky world of chequebook journalism

Article Abstract:

The Mail on Sunday may face losses of at least 350,000 pounds sterling following its decision not to go ahead with the serialization of the memoirs of James Hewitt, a former lover of Diana, Princess of Wales. The newspaper made this decision after coming under pressure from other tabloid newspapers and from Earl Spencer, the Princess's brother. It has threatened to take legal action to recover the money from Hewitt, but will wish to avoid an embarrassing court case.
