How Harold's pet project became his monument

Article Abstract:

Former UK Prime Minister Harold Wilson was very influential in the creation of the Open University. He made education his priority, but saw mixed success. However, it cannot be denied that he will be remembered very positively for his involvement with the Open University. He faced considerable opposition, but remained determined to set up the Open University, despite economic and financial crises. He always believed that there would be demand for such an institution, but did not realize fully how great that demand would be.
