The mistakes made by outgoing UK Conservative party leader William Hague are considered. It is argued that he failed to communicate a strong image of modern conservatism and that he was unable to convince voters about the relevance of conservatism.

Eight more cases are confirmed as slaughter continues

There are now 26 confirmed cases of foot-and-mouth disease in the UK, with more than 100 farms being under restrictions. Some 15,000 animals have already been destroyed in an attempt to prevent further cases.
